Lake Toba:
Lake Toba’s bracing climate, relaxing pace and refreshing views attract visitors from throughout Indonesia and all over the world. The lake, largest in Southeast Asia and deepest in the world, is the result of a massive volcanic eruption. At the center of the lake, Samosir island is the legendary center of the Batak culture which spreads throughout the surrounding highlands.

 

 

The Batak today are known for their musical ability textiles and crafts, white their forebears enjoyed a more dubious fame as cannibals. Relics of the ancient Batak cultures can be seen in the vicinity of Toba.

The island of Samosir, one of the most tranquil locales in Sumatra, is almost free of motorized transport and has become a major destination for those seeking water sports, leisurely walks or more strenuous hikes.
